High school sports in Utah are under the direction of the Utah High School Activities Association. The UHSAA uses Arbitersports to register referees and umpires in the sports of basketball, football, baseball, soccer, volleyball, wrestling, softball.
Visit the UHSAA website to begin the application process. Once registered, prospective officials will be sent a packet of information which will include rulebooks as well as information about rules clinics.
Utah Referee and Umpire Training
Before each season, a Utah official will conduct a rules clinic for the benefit of all referees and umpires. This clinic is mandatory for all licensed officials.
New officials should contact and join a local officials association. Local associations hold meetings during the season to help with ongoing training as well as game assignments.
Utah referees that want to receive post season tournament assignments must pass Part 2 of the rules exam. A passing grade of 90% is required (and no retakes).
