Become a referee in Louisiana by registering with the Louisiana High School Officials Association. Under the direction of the LHSOA officials are trained and certified to referee or umpire the high school sports including basketball, baseball, football, soccer, softball, wrestling and volleyball.
To begin the process, go to the LHSOA website. Along the left side of the page, you will see links to various deadlines and dates for registration, clinics and testing. Depending on when you go to the site, the registration may be open or closed. If registration is closed, you will need to return at a later date to begin the process.
When the opportunity to register for your sport comes, you will need to create an account with ArbiterSports and follow complete the required training and testing.
After you select the sport or sports that you wish to officiate, the system will ask you for your email address to see if you have an existing Arbiter account. If you do, you will be asked to add your password. If you do not, you will need to create a password for future access to the site.
Training for Louisiana Referees and Umpires
At the end of the process, you will need to join the local association for your sport. Do so by contacting the Regional Coordinator that handles your area. This information can be found in the upper left corner of the LHSOA home page. Your RCO will help assist you with training and getting game assignments.
Once you have registered and paid your fee, you will be sent instruction on the rules testing required to become certified in your sport. Testing is done online during preset dates just prior to the season.
